World focusing on Nigeria for credible polls - ECOWAS Commission

Image
The President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Omar Alieu Touray, has urged INEC and political parties to obey the peace accord and conduct credible polls. The ECOWAS Commission, after stakeholders gathering in Owerri at the weekend, has urged all 18 registered political parties and candidates in the forthcoming elections to be mindful that the world would be watching the exercise. The President, represented by a regional body official, Dr Onyinye Onwuka, charged everyone concerned to adhere strictly to provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 guidelines and the peace accord they signed before the campaigns. It charged to ensure credible, free and fair general elections at the February 25 and March 11 presidential, National Assembly, Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections. INEC was charged to ensure unbiased conduct of the polls because the whole of Africa and the world are looking up to Nigeria, noting that the importance of Nigeria in the West Afr...

Tinubu’s numerous comics, signs of failing health

Image
The APC presidential candidate has been under strict scrutiny by Nigerians for his alleged poor health condition since he made his intention to contest for the presidency public. Tinubu at a rally in Akwa Ibom State on the 30th of January, erroneously claimed to have made Atiku Abubakar the Senate President, someone who has never crossed that border before. These constant errors are gradually becoming embarrassing to the country, Nigeria. It has to be noted here, that these constant errors or ‘comic scenes,’ could be effects of his failing health. Past instances were his ‘plan’ on recruiting 50 million youths into the Nigerian Army to solve unemployment. Another was his call for PVCs collection which he said would expire ahead of the election. It should be recalled that INEC had to swiftly do some corrections after that started causing panic in the polity, even as he called the card APV, instead of PVC. Nigeria would become the butt of jokes across the world with Tinubu as its Presiden...

World's richest footballer worth 10 times Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi combined

Image
Brunei’s 24-year-old Faiq Jefri Bolkiah, a member of the Bruneian Royal Family, born in Los Angeles, California, in the United States of America, on the 9th of May, 1998, is the world’s richest footballer. Faiq has a net worth of an extraordinary $20 billion (£16bn), which is considerably more than Messi ($600m) and Ronaldo ($490m), being nephew to the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, but a market value of just €200k. Bolkiah, a talented young player who frustratingly continues to fail in cutting it out, currently plays as a left winger for Thai League 1 club Chonburi FC and has served as captain of the Brunei national team. With stints at Southampton, Chelsea and Leicester City, he never managed to break into the first team and left England for Martimo in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, on the 23rd of September, 2020. Bolkiah noted having about three or four offers after Leicester but decided on CS Marítimo, which unfortunately still didn’t work out as he only made three senior appea...

Peter Obi is a Third Force - Dele Momodu

Image
Former presidential aspirant and PDP chieftain, Dele Momodu, on Tuesday, 6th February 2023, has stylishly come out to describe Nigeria's Party System as a ‘Two-Party’ one by referring to Peter Obi as a Third Force. On Channels TV’s ‘The 2023 Verdict’, he said, the Labour Party had aspired to become a ‘Third Force’ to bring change to the political landscape, but is ‘struggling’ because a presidential race is not a marathon and ‘takes time to build bridges’. “Usually, in many countries,” he had said, “you have two mainstream political parties and candidates. In the case of Nigeria, now we seem to have a third force, the fourth force is not doing much.” Even though he categorises Obi as part of the ‘leading candidates,’ stating them as Atiku, Tinubu, Obi, (note the arrangement), then others, the use of the term embeds much in portraying Obi’s ‘probable’ fate in the elections. What is a ‘Third Force’? Though originally used by the ANC in the 1980s/1990s with what is of no ‘concern’ in ...
