I have been surviving on N20,000 for one week – Femi Adesina
Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, has publicly ‘advised’ Nigerians who assault banks, loot shops and interact in civil disobedience to desist from such acts.

He ‘revealed’ how he has been surviving amidst scarcity of new naira notes in the country. Writing on “Living on shoestring budget,” yesterday, Thursday, 9th February 2023, he state living on just twenty thousand nairas for one week.
Adesina noted leaving Abuja on January 23rd, with the 31st earmarked for a return, on an adventure through Bauchi, Lagos, Senegal, Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa, spending just the twenty thousand nairas with him for one week.
He had termed it a ‘Shoestring budget’. He had noted relying on ‘just’ N6,000 out of the N20,000 he ‘had’, which soon slimmed down to N2,500 by the 26th/27th of January. Those in authorities “itch as properly, and scratch as hard,” he stated.
“Birds sweat,” he said, “however their feathers make the sweat indiscernible”. After liaising with his banker with nothing ‘sensible’ coming forth, he had dished away many engagements, taking a leaf from training from his Ijebu mother.
Through this, he said, he was able to shoestring his budgets. From that day till the following Wednesday, he became very gentle through force but had been fortunate to get some meals at some points and drink garri and groundnuts.
Pragmatism, he had called it, amidst stating having no monetary gift from anywhere even with his financial institution ‘locking’ its doors, with bank transfers also posing as headaches.
Using this ‘plight’ of his, he had ‘castigated’ Nigerians attacking banks and ‘engaging in civil disobedience’. “Cash is coming,” he was saying on the road to a conclusion, “greater than we want. The halcyon days will come.”
